Three days of programming including readings, discussions and book art
The Netuschil Gallery in Darmstadt is hosting an extensive program for World Book Day from April 23rd to 25th, 2026. Planned events include a book and print market, exhibitions on book art, as well as numerous readings, discussions, and guided tours.
Book art and literature in focus
Book culture takes center stage on all three days. Various display cases showcase important examples of Darmstadt's book history – from Art Nouveau and Expressionism to art after 1945.
Alongside this, a literary café invites visitors to exchange ideas over coffee and pastries.
Opening event with book launch and discussions
The program begins on Thursday, April 23, with the opening ceremony and a book launch. A comprehensive catalog for the exhibition "4-3-2-1" at the Mathildenhöhe will be presented.
The program continues with discussions with young people about the book's creation, as well as a one-minute reading of texts by the Darmstadt poet Karl Wolfskehl.
A highlight will be a discussion with Darmstadt booksellers who will present their favorite books. In the evening, a lecture on the history of books and publishing will provide an overview of the development of Darmstadt as a book city.
Literary and artistic contributions on Friday
On Friday, April 24, the program continues with further formats. These include a discussion of images related to New Objectivity, a literature circle, and a lecture with recitation on expressionist texts by Ludwig Meidner.
Closing event with printing demonstration and reading
Saturday, April 25th, will be dedicated to practical insights into book art. In addition to the book and print market, an artistic printing demonstration will be offered, showcasing the technique of etching.
The event will conclude with a reading from the works of Karl Wolfskehl.
Registration for individual program items
Registration is requested for several events. These include, among others, the booksellers' discussion, lectures, and readings.
