Baroque hymns of praise on May 10th in the Holy Cross Church
The Bach Choir Darmstadt, together with the Leipzig trombone quartet OPUS 4, invites you to its annual spring concert. Under the title "Choir and Trombones – Songs of Praise from the Baroque," the audience can expect a diverse program featuring works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
The concert will take place on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the Holy Cross Church in Darmstadt.
Works from Monteverdi to Handel
The program spans from the Renaissance to the height of the Baroque period. Composers such as Claudio Monteverdi and Andreas Hammerschmidt represent the musical transition between these eras.
The repertoire is complemented by English choral music from Thomas Weelkes and Henry Purcell. Highlights of the evening include works by Johann Sebastian Bach and the famous "Hallelujah" chorus from Handel's Messiah.
Special sound combination
The concert combines choir and trombones in a unique way. The brass instruments take on both accompanying and solo roles, sometimes engaging in dialogue with the choir on an equal footing.
The Leipzig ensemble OPUS 4 consists of musicians with ties to the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Together with the choir, they open up new sonic perspectives on familiar works.
