The city is installing two speed bumps between Lossenweg and the allotment gardens – work will last until the beginning of October
on Heinrichwingertsweg in Darmstadt starting Monday, September 21, 2026. The city intends to use these raised sections of road between Lossenweg and the allotment gardens to calm traffic and improve road safety. The work is expected to last until Friday, October 2.
Heinrichwingertsweg is located in a 30 km/h zone and provides a direct connection between Klappacher Straße and Nieder-Ramstädter Straße. According to the city, the route is therefore frequently used as an alternative route.
City responds to traffic conflicts
Head of Transport Paul Georg Wandrey points in particular to the weekday peak hours and days with football matches at the Böllenfalltor stadium. Traffic conflicts repeatedly occur there on these days. Feedback from local residents was also taken into account in the decision.
“There are also two daycare centers in the adjacent Martinstraße, so we saw a need for action here – also following suggestions from residents,” explains Wandrey.
Berlin cushions are raised sections of the road designed to slow down vehicles. In Heinrichwingertsweg, additional lateral barriers are being installed. These are intended to prevent vehicles from driving around the speed bumps and also improve their visibility.
The city is investing around 15,000 euros
During the works, there may be temporary restrictions on road traffic. Road users must observe the adjusted traffic management plans.
According to its own statements, the city of Darmstadt is investing around 15,000 euros gross in the measure.
