The campaign on June 18th aims to protect against bicycle theft
The Darmstadt 1st Police Precinct is offering a free bicycle coding event to improve protection against bicycle theft. The event will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bismarckstraße 16.
The police point out that, in addition to a high-quality bicycle lock, properly locking the bicycle and, if necessary, a GPS tracker, bicycle coding is also a useful addition to theft protection.
Clearly mark the bicycle
The coding allows a bicycle to be uniquely identified and traced back to its rightful owner. This makes it more difficult to resell stolen bicycles and supports police investigations.
To participate, you should have the required information about your bicycle ready. This includes the manufacturer, model, and frame number.
Proof of ownership required
For the coding process, a valid ID and proof of ownership for the bicycle must be presented. Owners of e-bikes or pedelecs are also requested to bring their battery keys.
To ensure a smooth process, attachments to the center frame, such as locks or containers, should be removed before the appointment.
Carbon bikes excluded
The police point out that carbon bicycles are not suitable for coding and therefore cannot be taken into account.
The bicycle coding will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 1st Police Precinct Darmstadt in Bismarckstraße 16.
