Anniversary tournament of the chess club with Melanie and Nikolas Lubbe
The chess club SV 1946 Groß-Gerau is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. One of the highlights of the anniversary program awaits chess enthusiasts on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Europlatz in Groß-Gerau.
Starting at 10 a.m., the two top German players Melanie Lubbe and Nikolas Lubbe will compete in a special partner simultaneous exhibition. The event will take place in the marquee on the market square.
Two grandmasters against up to 40 opponents
Melanie Lubbe holds the title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM), and her husband Nikolas Lubbe is a Grandmaster (GM). Both have been among the strongest chess players in Germany for years.
In partner simultaneous chess, they play together against up to 40 participants. The two grandmasters take turns moving at the boards and move around the board together. For their opponents, this means less thinking time and, at the same time, the challenge of competing against two top players working closely together.
Registration via the club website
The participation fee is ten euros. Members of the Groß-Gerau chess club can participate free of charge.
Free water will be provided for all participants at the start of the event.
Registrations are possible via the club's website. Interested parties can also find further information about the tournament schedule there.
