Darmstadt takes a stand against sexual harassment
The Catcallsofdarmstadt initiative, together with the Darmstadt Women's Office, invites you to a day of action against sexual harassment in public spaces on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Interactive activity in the Herrngarten
The event will take place from 11 am to 2 pm in the Herrngarten and is dedicated to the nationwide Anti-Catcalling Day.
Visitors can take part in an interactive “treasure hunt” that starts at various entrances to the park – including St. Elisabeth Church, the Hessian State Archives and Hochschulstraße.
Along the routes, questions and facts provide information about catcalling, those affected, and the consequences of sexual harassment in public spaces.
“Patriarchy-free zone” at the adventure playground
All paths lead to a so-called "patriarchy-free zone" at the adventure playground in Herrngarten. There you will find information, hands-on activities, and space for conversation and exchange.
Also on display is an exhibition featuring documented catcalling experiences from Darmstadt.
Speeches and an open buffet are planned
Speeches are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., including those from Mayor and Women's Affairs Officer Barbara Akdeniz and representatives of the Catcallsofdarmstadt initiative.
An open buffet under the motto "sharing is caring" is intended to create additional opportunities for meeting and exchange.
Attention to sexual harassment
Catcalling refers to intrusive comments, whistling or obscene gestures in public spaces and is considered a form of sexual harassment.
Akdeniz emphasized beforehand that sexualized harassment should not be normalized and is an expression of unequal power relations.
