Groß-Gerau reacts to planned cuts by the state in local mobility funding
The Groß-Gerau district wants to ensure that the STADTRADELN cycling campaign can continue in the future. This comes in response to plans by the Hessian Ministry of Transport to discontinue funding for various local mobility initiatives from 2027 . Among the affected programs would be STADTRADELN and the school cycling program. Participating municipalities would then have to bear the costs themselves.
District Administrator Thomas Will criticizes the announced cuts and has already written to the responsible ministry. In it, the district advocates for the preservation of the existing funding programs.
The district is providing funds as a precautionary measure
Regardless of the state's decision, the district wants to secure funding as a precautionary measure. Around €5,000 to be budgeted for 2027 so that the district and its towns and municipalities can continue to participate in the STADTRADELN cycling campaign.
According to the district administrator, this will not create any additional tasks for the district. The funds will be financed from the existing budget of the cycling coordinator.
Appeal to the state of Hesse
Thomas Will urges the state not to discontinue proven programs promoting local mobility. The STADTRADELN (City Cycling) campaign has been established for years and makes a significant contribution to encouraging more people to use bicycles as a means of everyday transport. This benefits both health and the environment and climate protection.
