Free leisure program for children launches – regular deployments planned from spring 2027 onwards in the Riedbahn area
Playing, moving around, and having fun together: The city of Weiterstadt has acquired a new mobile play unit that will offer free recreational activities to children in the city's districts. Mayor Niklas Gehnich personally inaugurated the new vehicle, thus launching another project of the city's youth services. The program is aimed particularly at children between the ages of four and fourteen. Registration is not required.
With the mobile play unit, the city aims to offer children uncomplicated leisure activities and simultaneously promote community spirit in the city's neighborhoods. The purchase was financed using funds from the integration grant.
Play and exercise without registration
The new mobile play unit aims to provide children with a place for exercise, social interaction, and playing together. The focus is on offering easily accessible recreational activities that can be used regardless of club membership or prior registration.
The event is especially aimed at children between the ages of four and 14. However, younger and older children are also welcome.
Participation is free. Two employees from the city's youth services department supervise the mobile play unit during its visits.
Important for parents: The responsibility for supervision generally remains with them.
Mayor Gehnich: "Exercise is better than hanging around!"
Mayor Niklas Gehnich sees the new service as an important contribution to children's and youth work in Weiterstadt.
"Children should be able to move around, play together, and have fun. With our new mobile play unit, we are creating a simple and free opportunity for all children to do just that. Because movement is better than hanging around!" explains Gehnich.
The mayor also welcomes the fact that the mobile play unit will be operated independently by the city in the future.
With this purchase, Weiterstadt is investing in a program designed to bring together children of different age groups and promote joint activities.
Purchase using funds from the integration allowance
The new mobile play unit was financed from funds from the integration allowance.
The city is thus focusing on providing leisure activities that are open to as many children as possible and that should enable encounters regardless of origin or personal circumstances.
The shared use of the mobile play unit is intended to promote contact between children and strengthen social cohesion in the city districts.
Regular deployments from spring 2027 onwards in the Riedbahn railway line
The first deployments of the new mobile play unit could take place as early as the end of 2026, provided suitable weather conditions are in place.
Starting in spring 2027, the city plans to offer a regular service in the Riedbahn district of Weiterstadt.
Furthermore, additional deployment options in other parts of the city are currently being prepared. Renting out the mobile play unit is also planned.
The city has not yet announced specific dates and locations for the individual operations.
