Kick-off with bicycle check and Climate Cycling Tour of the city
On Monday, June 8, 2026, the annual school cycling and city cycling campaigns will start in Darmstadt. For three weeks, citizens are encouraged to cover as many everyday and leisure journeys as possible by bicycle and collect kilometers for their teams.
Participation is possible via the STADTRADELN platform. There, interested individuals can create their own teams or join existing groups. The kilometers cycled can be recorded online or via GPS using the STADTRADELN app.
Signs of climate-friendly mobility
Climate Protection Officer Michael Kolmer points to the great response of recent years. The STADTRADELN (City Cycling) campaign has become a fixed date in the calendar for many Darmstadt residents.
The aim of the campaign is to promote cycling, to make climate-friendly mobility visible and to inspire as many people as possible to use the bicycle as a means of transport in everyday life.
Twelfth edition of the school cycling event
Parallel to the City Cycling campaign, the School Cycling campaign is also starting in Darmstadt. School Superintendent Holger Klötzner emphasizes that the competition is now entering its twelfth year.
Participation aims to motivate students to be more active, more independent in their mobility, and to adopt climate-friendly behaviors. At the same time, the initiative strengthens team spirit within the school community.
Mobility officer Paul Georg Wandrey emphasizes that cycling has long been a natural part of everyday life for many children and young people. He believes that cycling to school is therefore also a contribution to greater road safety and better cooperation on the roads.
Bike check and joint bike tour
The official launch will take place on June 8th from 3 pm at "karo 5" on Karolinenplatz. Staff from the 20° bicycle workshop of the General Student Committee of TU Darmstadt will be on hand with tools and expertise to check bicycles and assist with minor repairs. Participants must bring their own spare parts.
A joint Climate Cycling Tour, organized by the Office for Climate Protection and Climate Adaptation together with the ADFC Darmstadt-Dieburg, will begin at 4 pm.
The approximately six-kilometer-long route leads to the Ludwigshöhe district. At several stations, participants receive information on municipal climate protection, climate-adapted construction, and successful sustainability projects.
Registration for the bike tour
To participate in the Climate Cycling Tour, the city requests registration via email to klimaschutz@darmstadt.de. If spaces are still available, spontaneous participation on site is also possible.
