Rüdiger Manig will explain the secrets of the sky on November 19th
Darmstadt. As part of the special exhibition "Clouds. Experiencing and Understanding," the Hessian State Museum Darmstadt on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 5 p.m. to a lecture with meteorologist Rüdiger Manig The event will take place in the museum's lecture hall in cooperation with the German Weather Service (DWD) .
Under the title "Clouds – Heralds of the Weather," Manig explores what clouds can reveal about the weather and how their shape, structure, and movement are interpreted. Why do dry and wet cumulus clouds differ? And why can dark mammatus clouds be deceptive?
First-hand cloud knowledge
Rüdiger Manig was a weather observer and head of the Neuhaus am Rennweg weather stationSince 2016, he has been managing German Meteorological Service the image database of cloud photographs, which includes many of his own photographs. In his presentation, he vividly recounts his decades of experience and explains what cloud formations in the sky reveal about upcoming weather patterns.
Exhibition “Clouds. Experience and Understand” until January 2026
The special exhibition of the same name can be seen at the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt until January 11, 2026. It offers a multimedia journey through the world of clouds with 3D models, scientific information, and exhibits from the museum's collection.

Admission to the lecture costs €3 (no concessions). Doors open 30 minutes before the event begins. The event lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes, and the lecture hall has a maximum capacity of 80 guests. Tickets are available at the museum ticket office or online at www.hlmd.de
