A free tour on September 18th will look at the past and future of the Rhine floodplains
How have nature and humans changed the Kühkopf and the Hessian Ried – and how might the landscape develop in the future? A free guided tour on Friday, September 18, 2026, will address these questions. The approximately two-hour tour begins at 3 p.m. at the Schatzinsel Kühkopf Environmental Education Center.
Under the title “Yesterday, today, tomorrow – the Kühkopf through the ages” , the district of Groß-Gerau, the Geo-Nature Park Bergstraße-Odenwald, the Environmental Education Center (UBZ) Schatzinsel Kühkopf and the District Adult Education Center (KVHS) Groß-Gerau jointly invite you to the event.
Shaped by the Rhine and changed by humans
Today, the Kühkopf area is primarily characterized by extensive meadows and forests. The guided tour will explore how natural processes and human intervention have altered the landscape on the Kühkopf and throughout the Hessian Ried region over time.
The focus is not solely on the past. Current developments will also be used to explore how the Hessian Rhine floodplains might change in the future.
The tour in and around the environmental education center will be led by Christian Kehrenberg from HessenForst.
Registration required for the tour
The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 25 people . Participation is free of charge, but prior registration via email to rangerbuchung@geo-naturpark.de is required.
The guided tour starts on Friday, September 18th, at 3 pm at the entrance of the Kühkopf Treasure Island Environmental Education Centre and lasts about two hours.
