73 guests gather in Goddelau – the senior citizens' advisory service is in high demand
The "Breathing Space" initiative of the Riedstadt/Stockstadt senior citizens' advisory center celebrated its summer festival at the end of August in the courtyard of the Büchner House in Goddelau. The event, originally planned for June, had been postponed due to the extreme heat at that time. Seventy-three guests attended the rescheduled celebration.
In addition to participants from the four "Breathing Space" groups, people who receive home visits from the respite care service were also invited. This service is aimed at older people and also supports their relatives.
Four groups regularly fully booked
According to the senior citizens' advisory center, the four existing "breathing space" groups, each with ten guests, are regularly fully booked.
Mayor Marcus Kretschmann welcomed the participants of the summer festival. Burkhard Held, chairman of the foundation's advisory board, also attended the event.
The Leeheim amateur theatre group was among those contributing to the program. Steffen Günther-Schmitz and Melanie Stroh-Ihrig performed two sketches and accompanied several songs on the guitar. The guests also sang together.
Cakes baked by the country women for 20 years
Stefanie Drozdzynski, head of the senior citizens' advisory center, expressed particular gratitude to the volunteer helpers of the "Atempause" (Breathing Space). Their commitment is a crucial prerequisite for maintaining the service at its current level.
At the summer festival, a long-standing support was also acknowledged: For 20 years, members of the Erfelden Rural Women's Association have been providing cakes for the "Atempause" (a local event). Helga Schöneberger of the Rural Women's Association pointed this out.
