Jazz, Bach and readings characterize the program in May 2026
The Evangelical City Church Parish of Darmstadt invites you to a diverse cultural program at the Darmstadt City Church in May 2026. Concerts, readings, and interdisciplinary projects will transform the church into a venue for music, literature, and dialogue.
Opening with a tribute to Miles Davis
The event begins on May 1st with a literary and musical evening in honor of Miles Davis, marking his 100th birthday.
Jazz journalist Stefan Hentz will read from his biography of the musician. The reading will be accompanied by saxophonist Anna-Lena Schnabel and pianist Florian Weber.
Live jazz series with diverse formats
The Live!Jazz concert series continues in May with several events. In addition to concerts with various ensembles, an open jam session and an interdisciplinary project on the theme of the sea are also planned.
The series concludes with a concert by the Fiona Grond Trio on May 23rd.
Reading as part of the Literary Spring festival
On May 9th, Mathijs Deen will read from his crime novel "The Pilot". The event is part of the Literary Spring 2026.
Church music and international choirs
Classical church music is also represented in the program. In addition to an organ matinee and a Bach vespers featuring works by Johann Sebastian Bach, several choral concerts are on the schedule.
A particular highlight is the performance of three girls' choirs from Västerås, Sweden, on May 17th.
Exhibition and Pentecost program
The exhibition “Photon Trace and Paragraphs” by Angelika Kohlmeier can be seen in the city church until May 30th.
At Pentecost, the program also includes a guided tour of the church and the traditional Bach and Bike organ cycling tour through Darmstadt and the region.
