A cappella concert on September 25th accompanies the exhibition “A Step Ahead” – introduction by Philipp Gutbrod
The Darmstadt Concert Choir will give a concert on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 8 p.m. in the exhibition building on the Mathildenhöhe. The program, entitled "A Morning Call Has Resounded to Us – Dreams, New Beginnings, Passion," features works from the Art Nouveau period and the early 20th century. At 7:15 p.m. Cultural Affairs Officer Dr. Philipp Gutbrod will give an introduction to the accompanying exhibition.
The concert is being held in cooperation with the Mathildenhöhe Institute as part of the exhibition “A Step Ahead – 125 Years of Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt” .
Music from the Art Nouveau period
With this program, the concert choir establishes a connection between the music and the history of the Darmstadt artists' colony. Among the pieces to be performed is the "Consecration Play," composed for the opening of the Art Nouveau exhibition in 1901. Songs by Arnold Mendelssohn are also on the program.
The choir's a cappella singing will be complemented by soloists and an instrumental ensemble throughout the evening, including a saxophone quartet.
The venue is the exhibition building on the Mathildenhöhe. The combination of this historical location with music from the time of the artists' colony's founding forms the thematic framework of the concert.
The introduction begins at 7:15 pm
Before the concert, Dr. Philipp Gutbrod will give an introduction to the exhibition "A Step Ahead – 125 Years of Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt" at 7:15 p.m. The box office opens at 6:45 p.m., and the concert begins at 8:00p.m.
