Lecture about hedgehogs on September 22nd and walk on the forest meditation trail on September 27th in Darmstadt
The BUND Darmstadt (Friends of the Germany, Darmstadt branch) is offering two events on nature and environmental topics at the end of September. On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, a lecture will focus on protecting hedgehogs and how to help them before winter. On Sunday, September 27, a walk will take place along the forest memorial trail near the Heimstättensiedlung housing estate.
The lecture on hedgehog protection will take place on September 22nd at 7 pm in the BUND Center for Urban Nature at Klappacher Straße 27. The lecture will cover the animals' way of life, dangers in urban areas, and ways to support hedgehogs.
Dangers for hedgehogs in your own garden
The German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) recommends, among other things, creating openings in fences and walls, as hedgehogs cover considerable distances in their nightly search for food. Cellar shafts and similar depressions should be checked and covered if possible.
The article also addresses robotic lawnmowers. Walk along the forest memorial trail
On Sunday, September 27th, at 3 pm, the BUND invites you to a walk along the forest memorial trail near the Heimstättensiedlung.
The tour, with its ten stations, explores different aspects of the forest. Participants are given questions and suggestions designed to encourage reflection and discussion about the forest and its importance. Finally, they can determine their personal "forest type" by answering various questions.
The meeting point is the Schirmschneise parking lot on Eschollbrücker Straße near the Heimstättensiedlung.
