Road closures will follow in the coming days – the 49th Onion Market begins on September 25th and lasts until Monday
Preparations are underway in Griesheim for the 49th Onion Market, which will take place from September 25th to 28th, 2026. Setup began on Monday, September 14th. Motorists should expect several road closures in the coming days. Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße/B26 will also be completely closed at times during the Onion Market.
According to the city, closures will follow at the beginning of next week in Hofmannstrasse as well as in the northern area of Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse and Schillerstrasse.

In addition, Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße/B26 between Schöneweibergasse and Wolfsweg from Friday, September 25th, 3:30 pm, until Tuesday, September 29th, 12 pm.
During this time, long-distance traffic will be diverted via the northern ring road.
The onion market itself begins on Friday at 5 p.m.The traditional tapping of the first keg of beer by the mayor is scheduled for around 7 p.m. in the carriage house.
According to the city, this year's program in the carriage hall will be somewhat reduced in scope. Only drinks will be available inside the hall. Food will be sold at the stalls in the market area between the carriage hall and the market square.
The tour of the local area starts at the outdoor swimming pool
The program also includes the city's guided tour of the district on Saturday, September 26.This year, the meeting point is at 9 a.m. at the entrance to the outdoor swimming pool. During the tour, the mayor will provide information at several stops about current and planned city projects.
The event will begin with a communal breakfast. After the tour, lunch and drinks will be available for participants in the carriage house.
