The city council approves further components of the municipal heat plan
The city council of Darmstadt, a city of science, has decided on the next steps for the city's future heat supply. In its meeting on Wednesday (1st), the council approved the remaining components of the municipal heat plan (KWP). These include the transformation pathway and the implementation strategy.
The municipal heat plan aims to demonstrate how buildings and businesses in Darmstadt can be supplied with heat in an economical, sustainable, and climate-friendly manner in the future. The goal is to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and end the use of fossil fuels by 2045 at the latest.
The plan will serve as a guide for citizens, businesses, energy suppliers, municipal utilities, and the administration. The adopted transformation path and implementation strategy form the roadmap for the next steps.
“With the finalization of the municipal heat planning through the adoption of the remaining parts, we are giving citizens guidance regarding future heat supply,” explain Mayor Hanno Benz and City Councillor Michael Kolmer.
Map shows potential future district heating areas
A key element of municipal heat planning is a comprehensive analysis of current and future heat supply. This includes an examination of existing heat demand, a potential analysis, and scenarios for future development.
One important outcome is a map showing where district heating networks are expected to be located in the future. This so-called zoning is intended to provide homeowners and other stakeholders with a better basis for decisions regarding future heat supply.
