An interactive exhibition on global resource distribution can be seen at Ludwig-Metzger-Platz until October 29th
The traveling exhibition "Poor Despite Wealth," on display from September 10 to October 29, 2026, at Ludwig-Metzger-Platz in Darmstadt, addresses the global distribution of resources and the impact of individual consumption. The city presents the exhibition, a joint project of the Motivés association and the Fairtrade Town Darmstadt steering committee.
The exhibition will be opened by Mayor Barbara Akdeniz on Thursday, September 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the "Knowledge for All" pavilion in front of the Justus Liebig House. In case of rain or severe weather, the opening will take place in the foyer of the Justus Liebig House.
Interactive elements and workshops
The exhibition explores the global distribution and use of resources. Movable and interactive elements such as flaps, guessing games, and puzzles are used to illustrate the topics covered.
Workshops can be booked for school classes and other groups aged 14 and over. Inquiries can be made by email to ausstellung@motives-verein.de .
The opening will include an introduction to the exhibition and an overview of the accompanying program. There will also be music and a tasting and sales stand run by the Darmstadt Fair Trade Shop.
Mayor Hanno Benz sees the exhibition as an opportunity to illustrate the connections between global resource distribution and individual consumption. It invites people to "reflect on our own consumption.".
The exhibition runs until the end of October
The traveling exhibition is organized by Motivés, an association based in Marburg. According to its own statements, it has been organizing events and projects in the fields of education for sustainable development and global learning since 2007.
“Poor Despite Wealth” is part of the “Regional Educational Program for Sustainable Development.” The project is funded by Engagement Global with resources from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the State of Hesse, and Bread for the World with resources from the Church Development Service.
The exhibition on Ludwig-Metzger-Platz in front of the Justus-Liebig-Haus can be seen until October 29th.
