An online event on November 12th will provide information about rights and counter-speech
Insults, hate speech, and escalating arguments are part of everyday life for many people on social media. But what rights do those affected have when boundaries are crossed online? And how can one respond to hurtful or hateful comments? An interactive online event on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. will provide answers to these questions.
Under the title "Digital debate culture: Your rights on the net and strategies of counter-speech", the DEXT specialist office of the science city of Darmstadt and the DEXT umbrella office of the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg invite you to a digital exchange.
What rights apply in cases of hate speech and insults online?
The event focuses on how people can navigate digital spaces safely and confidently. This includes, in particular, situations where online discussions escalate, defamatory comments appear, or personal boundaries are crossed.
Experts from the organization HateAid provide information about the legal framework and explain what support victims of digital violence can receive.
The aim is for participants to learn what options are available to them in the event of problematic or abusive statements on the internet.
Strategies for a constructive counter-argument
In addition to legal issues, the event deals with the practical handling of hate and conflict online.
The LOVESTORM initiative presents strategies for counter-speech. It focuses on how people can react to problematic comments and participate in digital discussions.
In addition, approaches to digital street work are presented. These deal with addressing and supporting people in digital spaces.
The event combines expert information with practical suggestions. In addition to the presentations, ample time is provided for questions, discussions, and the exchange of personal experiences.
