Checks in Darmstadt uncover violations of insurance and driver's license regulations
During a targeted inspection of e-scooters, pedelecs, and other two-wheeled vehicles, police in Darmstadt identified numerous violations on Friday (July 10). Checks were carried out in various locations, including the area around Hügelstraße/Neckarstraße, Pallaswiesenstraße/Kasinostraße, and Luisenplatz. Officers from the South Hesse Police Headquarters' Traffic Division supported the operation.
Within about three and a half hours, the police checked a total of 35 vehicles – mostly e-scooters and pedelecs, but also mopeds.
Officers recorded five violations of the compulsory insurance law. They also found three e-scooters whose design-related maximum speed required a driver's license. Since the riders did not possess the required licenses, criminal charges were filed. A moped rider also faced charges for driving without a license.
Another e-scooter rider is under investigation on suspicion of document forgery. According to police, his vehicle had a false insurance license plate.
Furthermore, officers stopped a man who was allegedly riding an uninsured e-scooter under the influence of amphetamines and cannabis. Drugs were also found in his possession.
Traffic violations were also dealt with: According to police, three road users – an e-scooter rider, a pedelec rider, and a car driver – ran a red light. They now face fines.
In the case of an e-scooter rider from Eastern Europe, whose vehicle reached speeds of up to 40 km/h, officers secured a security deposit of 500 euros .
