New concession agreements secure the city's energy supply for another 20 years
The town of Griesheim will continue to rely on ENTEGA for its electricity and gas supply. Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl and Andreas Niedermaier, Board Member for Human Resources and Infrastructure at ENTEGA AG, signed the new concession agreements on June 24th. ENTEGA, together with its subsidiary e-netz Südhessen AG, had applied for the contract and was once again awarded it.
As ENTEGA announced, the new contracts run for 20 years and secure long-term cooperation between the city, ENTEGA, and e-netz Südhessen. The tender became necessary because the previous concession agreements had expired after the legally permissible maximum term.
Griesheim is an important energy location
Griesheim is one of the largest municipalities in the concession area and plays a special role for ENTEGA. The city is a municipal shareholder in ENTEGA AG, holds the largest stake in ENTEGA Kommunale Beteiligungsgesellschaft GmbH, and is thus indirectly involved in e-netz Südhessen AG. In addition, around 90 of the company's employees live in Griesheim.
“Griesheim is much more than just a network location for us – many of our colleagues live here, and our municipal ownership family has a particularly strong presence here,” says Andreas Niedermaier. The renewed award of the concession is a great vote of confidence. ENTEGA intends to continue supplying the city with sustainable and reliable energy and infrastructure solutions for the next 20 years.
Supply for approximately 29,300 inhabitants
Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl emphasizes the long-standing cooperation with the regionally rooted energy supplier. "We know how important a partner is who is rooted in the region and understands the needs of our citizens. Communication is direct, contacts are local, and the added value remains in the region."
According to the company, the electricity grid supplies approximately 29,300 residents across an area of 21.55 square kilometers. Around 6,800 electricity connections are supplied via approximately 266 kilometers of power lines. The 89-kilometer-long gas network supplies approximately 4,500 connections.
Basis for the energy and heat transition
The contract extension is intended not only to guarantee security of supply, but also to further advance the energy and heat transition in Griesheim. Mayor Krebs-Wetzl sees this as creating good conditions for climate protection, renewable energies and greater energy efficiency in the city.
