Painting about urban interstitial spaces in the space for art
Under the title "Echoes," the Raum für Kunst gallery in Darmstadt will present works by Munich artist Manuel Rumpf from May 8 to June 12, 2026. The exhibition focuses on contemporary landscapes and urban interstitial spaces.
Focus on inconspicuous everyday landscapes
The work focuses on places that are often overlooked in everyday life: traffic areas, industrial zones, or the fringes of urban spaces. These functional environments shape the cityscape, yet are rarely consciously perceived.
Rumpf focuses his attention on precisely these transitional spaces and examines their atmosphere. Light, emptiness, and traces of human use are the focus of his artistic exploration.
Between perception and memory
The starting point for his work is a photographic approach to the subjects. In his paintings, the artist translates these impressions into oil on canvas or ink drawings.
A characteristic feature is a reduced, deliberately blurred style. Instead of detailed depictions, moods and fleeting impressions take center stage. The works show scenes devoid of people, existing in the space between perception and memory.
