Offers, advice and activities for families in the city center
The city of Darmstadt, a center of science and research, invites everyone to "Family Week" in the city center from Monday, May 11th, to Friday, May 15th, 2026. At Ludwigsplatz in Darmstadt and in the former McDonald's premises at Ernst-Ludwig-Straße 26, professionals from the Youth Welfare Office will present numerous activities for children, teenagers, young adults, and families.
Exchange and consultation are the focus
The aim of the campaign week is to provide families with easily accessible information about support and counselling services. Visitors can drop by without an appointment, ask questions, and talk to professionals.
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz explains:
“Child and youth services accompany, support, protect and empower children, young people, young adults and their families individually and in groups. The exchange between families and professionals is extremely important in order to tailor services to specific needs. With Family Week, we want to promote precisely this exchange and reach families where they are.”
Creative activities and offers for families
On Monday, May 11, the focus will be on early intervention services, childcare, and family education. Planned activities include creative workshops such as button making and bib painting. There will also be quiet rooms for breastfeeding and quiet time, as well as a "Breastfeeding Sharing Café" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tuesday, May 12th, is dedicated to the topic of inclusion. The city's case manager will provide information about support services for families with children and young people with disabilities. In addition, there will be short presentations on topics such as neurodivergence, autism, and ADHD.
Workshops and new annual program
On Wednesday, May 13, experts will provide information about leisure activities, holiday programs, and the transition from school to work. A free workshop, "The Dark Side of Memes," will also be offered for young people.
Friday, May 15th, is also International Family Day. Families can expect a diverse program with games and activities. The family center's new annual program for August 2026 to July 2027 will also be presented.
