Following repeated damage to the fence, the city requests attention and information to be reported to the public order office.
The six donkeys that help Griesheim with landscape maintenance have moved. For the next few weeks, they will graze near the Gerhart Hauptmann School. Afterwards, the animals will move to their winter quarters at the airfield.
Previously, the donkey group had already been deployed at Haus Waldeck, at the football pitch, at the forest playground and at Nordring.
Fence damaged multiple times
Since the relocation, the fence has been repeatedly damaged. To protect the animals and people who visit the forest, the city requests increased vigilance. Anyone who notices damage or other irregularities can report this directly to the Griesheim public order office.
The donkeys are often visible from the path and visitors are welcome. However, the landscape conservation farm expressly requests that visitors do not feed the animals.
Donkeys support the rejuvenation of the city forest
Since 2022, the animals have been used for grazing in the Griesheim municipal forest. Their purpose is to suppress the widespread reed grass. This gives herbaceous plants, shrubs, and young trees more room to grow.
Over the course of the year, the group has already grazed further forest areas, thus contributing to the natural regeneration of the forest.
Further information
Background information on forest grazing and the animals used can be found on the website of the city of Griesheim.
