Scottish striker joins VfL Wolfsburg
After three years with SV Darmstadt 98, Fraser Hornby is leaving the Lilies. The Scottish attacking midfielder will join VfL Wolfsburg next season. Both clubs have agreed to keep the transfer fee confidential.
With this transfer, SV Darmstadt 98 loses an important key player from the past two seasons.
Request to move to Bundesliga
Sporting director Paul Fernie explained that Hornby had approached the club with a request to transfer.
"Of course, it's not easy to let go of a key player who has left his mark both on and off the field," said Fernie. At the same time, Wolfsburg had made an offer that was financially attractive for the club.
Fernie also emphasized that both the player and the club had benefited from each other in recent years. The transfer was further proof that players can successfully develop in Darmstadt.
Important building block after relegation from the Bundesliga
Hornby moved to Darmstadt from French club Stade Reims in the summer of 2023. After a difficult first season, the striker developed into a key player for the Lilies.
Especially in the past two seasons, he was one of the most influential offensive players for the South Hessian team.
25 goals for the Lilies
The 26-year-old made a total of 64 competitive appearances for SV Darmstadt 98, scoring 25 goals and providing ten assists.
The past season was particularly strong. In 27 competitive matches, Hornby collected a total of 21 scorer points, making him one of the team's most successful attacking players.
With his move to VfL Wolfsburg, the Scotsman is now returning to the Bundesliga and opening the next chapter of his career.
