The city provides information on the inspection, replacement, and acceptance of garden water meters
The Griesheim tax and fees office advises that private garden water meters should be regularly checked for validity. This is due to the legally mandated calibration period of six years. If the calibration has expired, no deductions can be made from wastewater fees for garden water consumption.
Check calibration period
Whether a garden water meter is still valid can be determined by the marking on the device. For example, if a meter bears the inscription "M19", it was calibrated in 2019. In this case, the calibration period ends at the end of 2025.
Replacement required by mid-August
All garden water meters whose calibration period expired at the end of 2025 must be replaced by mid-August 2026 and subsequently inspected by the municipal utilities.
If the switch is not made in time, the meter reading for the current year 2026 can no longer be taken into account. Wastewater fees will then also be charged for the entire garden water consumption.
Schedule an appointment for the inspection
After replacement or initial installation, the garden water meter must be inspected and approved by a member of the Griesheim municipal utilities. Appointments can be made by calling 0175 2290547.
The city of Griesheim provides further information on the process in a leaflet about garden water meters.
Costs and potential savings
The costs for purchasing, installing, or replacing the garden water meter are borne by the property owners themselves. In addition, there is an annual processing fee of 15 euros.
After successful inspection, only the fresh water fee will be charged for the water measured by the garden water meter. No wastewater fees will be charged for this amount of water.
