Faulty backwash pump delays the start of the season – outdoor pool remains open until September 13th
The Griesheim municipal indoor swimming pool cannot open as planned at the beginning of September. The reason is a defective backwash pump, which is needed for cleaning the filter system. According to the current schedule, the indoor swimming pool is now expected to open on October 3, 2026, at the start of the autumn school holidays.
Without the pump, the four low-pressure filters of the pool's circulation system cannot be backwashed. According to the city, this means the required water quality cannot currently be reliably guaranteed.

The backwash pump unexpectedly failed during the commissioning of the facilities. Furthermore, during maintenance work in the summer, a large portion of the activated carbon was removed from the filters. New filter material can only be added once the backwashing system is functioning again. Until then, the filter performance is insufficient for safe swimming.
After the pump is replaced and its functionality tested, the filters will be backwashed and refilled with filter material. This will be followed by a trial run with close monitoring of the water quality. The city will then announce the final opening date.
“Safety and water quality are our top priority,” explains Mayor Krebs-Wetzl, asking bathers for their understanding.
The outdoor swimming pool will remain open until and including September 13th.
