Event focuses on resilient southern Hesse
The cooperation between the German Armed Forces and the private sector was the focus of an event held at the House of Industry and Commerce in Southern Hesse. Around 140 guests participated in the "Business in Dialogue" series on April 21, 2026.
Security as a shared responsibility
In his presentation, Colonel Michael Felten of the Hesse State Command emphasized the changed security policy situation in Europe. Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine shows that deterrence and defense capabilities must once again be given greater focus.

Hubertus Bardt from the German Economic Institute also emphasized that security is not solely the responsibility of the state. Companies also have a role to play, for example in prevention, crisis management, and cooperation with security authorities.

The economy as part of resilience
Ines Weyand, chairwoman of HESSENMETALL South Hesse, was confirmed in office for another two years at the members' meeting. She emphasized the role of the economy in strengthening societal resilience.
Digital technologies, networked systems, and industrial innovations, in particular, could make a significant contribution to security. The so-called dual-use approach – that is, technologies with both civilian and military applications – is becoming increasingly important in this context.
New board elected
During the general meeting, the board of directors and members' council of HESSENMETALL Südhessen were also newly elected. In addition to the chairwoman, representatives from various companies in the metal and electrical industries as well as the IT sector are involved in the board.
