Swedish striker leaves SV Darmstadt 98 for the Bundesliga
SV Darmstadt 98 has lost another key player: striker Isac Lidberg will move to the Bundesliga next season, joining Borussia Mönchengladbach. Both clubs have agreed to keep the financial details of the transfer confidential.
Lidberg moved from FC Utrecht to Böllenfalltor in August 2024 and has developed into one of the most important offensive players for the Lilies over the past two seasons.
Fernie: "He deserves this chance"
Sporting director Paul Fernie explains the transfer:
“We were prepared for Isac to want to take the next step this summer after two impressive seasons. In the event of an offer, we had clear financial expectations, which Mönchengladbach have now met. Isac always told me about his dream of playing in the Bundesliga one day. And we consistently emphasized that we wanted to generate transfer revenue when the time was right. That moment has now arrived, and we are proud of the journey Isac has taken with us. He has presented himself as a consummate professional throughout his time here, brought us great joy with his performances, and has now earned this opportunity. We wish him every success in Mönchengladbach.”
Strong record in Darmstadt
The 27-year-old Swede made a total of 64 competitive appearances for SV Darmstadt 98. He scored 32 goals and provided 11 assists.
His performances also brought the striker to the attention of the Swedish national team. The Stockholm native made his debut for Sweden in November 2024 and has since earned three caps.
Second high-profile departure within a short period of time
Following Fraser Hornby's move to VfL Wolfsburg, SV Darmstadt 98 has lost another key attacking player in a short period of time. The club's management now faces the task of filling the resulting gaps in attack before the start of the 2026/27 second division season.
