Exclusive zoo evening for affected families on June 12th
The Vivarium Zoo Darmstadt will once again open its gates for the so-called "Dreamnight" on Friday, June 12, 2026. Together with the Darmstadt Association for Children with Cancer and Chronic Illnesses, the zoo will offer seriously ill and disabled children, as well as their families and friends, a special evening in an extraordinary atmosphere.
The zoo will close to the public at 2 pm on this day, as Dreamnight is a private event.
Exclusive behind-the-scenes insights
Participating families can expect a varied program with special insights into the zoo's animal world. In addition to visits to the animal enclosures and behind-the-scenes tours, the program also includes quizzes and craft activities.
Furthermore, the event offers the opportunity to connect with other affected families. Refreshments will also be provided for the guests.
City Treasurer André Schellenberg praised the commitment of those involved: “With Dreamnight, we are once again offering chronically ill and disabled children and their families an exclusive visit to the zoo. Our thanks go to the Association for Children with Cancer and Chronic Illnesses in Darmstadt for their cooperation and support. It is also worth emphasizing that the team at the Vivarium Zoo always makes this event possible on a voluntary basis.”
International campaign with a long tradition
Dreamnight was launched by Rotterdam Zoo in 1996. More than 150 zoos worldwide now participate in the project. Darmstadt Zoo Vivarium held its first Dreamnight in 2005 and has therefore been a supporter of the international initiative for many years.
