Ecumenical service in St. Martin's Church to mark the start of the semester
The Protestant Student Community announces that Pastor Almut Gallmeier will be officially installed in her office on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. The ceremony will take place as part of an ecumenical opening service for the semester in St. Martin's Church.
Church service with international participation
The service begins at 6:30 p.m. in St. Martin's Church on Heinheimer Straße. Under the motto "Behold, I make all things new," the Protestant and Catholic university congregations will jointly celebrate the start of the summer semester.
During the event, Almut Gallmeier will be officially installed as university chaplain by Senior Church Councillor Christian Schwindt. The service will be accompanied musically by the Indonesian KMKI Hessen Choir.
A joint celebration is planned afterwards at the Protestant Student Community in Darmstadt.
Experience from community and studies
Almut Gallmeier has been the new university chaplain of the Protestant Student Community in Darmstadt since February 1st. She studied Protestant theology in Münster, Heidelberg, and Berlin, as well as at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. There she gained experience in Jewish-Christian dialogue, which shaped her subsequent work.
After many years of service in church communities, including those in Biedenkopf and Bensheim, she is now transitioning to university ministry. She sees the student ministry as a "temporary community" that aims to offer students guidance, fellowship, and a space for exchange.
Focus on community and support
In her new role, Gallmeier aims to support students during what is often a challenging phase of their lives. This includes conversations, spiritual guidance, interreligious dialogue, and events addressing social and political issues.
In addition to students, her commitment also extends to university staff who often work under high pressure. Together with her team, she wants to create additional spaces where exchange and relief are possible.
The ESG Council, a body elected by students, also plays an important role in shaping community life. It is supported by an alumni group of former members.
