Sporting director extends long-term contract and moves into a management position
SV Darmstadt 98 is committed to continuity in its sporting leadership: Paul Fernie has extended his contract early and for the long term, and is simultaneously being promoted to the management board. He will assume the role of Managing Director of Sport.
Trust and a clear perspective
Darmstadt president Markus Pfitzner highlighted the development under Fernie: Over the past two years, he has further professionalized the sporting structures and advanced the club's overall strategy. After the brief stint in the Bundesliga, the club has once again established a stable position in the second division.
By extending his contract, Fernie is sending a clear signal of commitment to the club. Together with Tom Eilers, he is expected to continue the path of professionalization that has already been embarked upon.
Fernie sees optimal conditions
Paul Fernie himself emphasizes his close ties to the club and the trusting relationship with the management. The transparent cooperation and clear prospects significantly influenced his decision.
Fernie also highlights the support provided in day-to-day operations and strategic decisions, such as squad planning. This facilitates his work and enables sustainable development.
Extended Management
Fernie joined SV Darmstadt 98 as sporting director in April 2024. With his promotion, he now joins the four-member management team. Alongside him, the board continues to consist of Michael Weilguny (commercial operations), Martin Kowalewski (marketing and sales), and Tom Eilers (match operations and organizational development).
