A multi-day trip leads to Passau, Kelheim and Straubing, as well as along the Glass Road and to the Großer Arber
A multi-day trip for senior citizens organized by the Büchner town of Riedstadt led to the Bavarian Forest. The itinerary included visits to Passau, a journey through the Danube Gorge to Weltenburg, the Glass Road, and an excursion to Straubing. The trip was organized by Walter Dörr, who has been volunteering for many years to organize senior citizen trips for the town.
After arriving, the group checked into their hotel, the "Mariandl". The following day, the excursion program began with a drive along the Glass Road. The participants visited a traditional Bärwurz distillery, the Weinfurtner glassworks, and the area around the Großer Arber mountain.
Passau and shipping on the Danube
Another day trip took them to Passau. In the city at the confluence of three rivers, the group visited the Veste Oberhaus fortress and attended an organ concert in St. Stephen's Cathedral. Afterwards, a two-hour Danube river cruise on the Crystal Ship was on the agenda.
The next day the group travelled to Kelheim. From there, they took a boat through the Danube Gorge to Weltenburg Abbey. There, they also had the opportunity to sample beer from the abbey's brewery.
On several excursions, the Riedstadt travel group was accompanied by their host Stefan, who provided information about the region during the bus journeys.
From the treetop walkway to Straubing
On another day, the program included a guided hike through the village followed by a visit to the treetop walkway in Maibrunn. Many participants also took advantage of the "Bavarian Forest Flyer," which offers a virtual tour of the region.
The final day trip took them to Straubing. On the way, the group visited the pilgrimage site of Bogenberg. Afterwards, they continued via Bogen to Straubing, before beginning their return journey to Riedstadt the following day.
Organizer Walter Dörr gave a positive assessment after the trip. The group returned home "with many impressions".
