District Administrator praises commitment to choral singing
At this year's singers' awards ceremony in the Groß-Gerau district, District Administrator Thomas Will recognized the long-standing commitment of 46 singers. In his laudatory speech, he emphasized the importance of choral singing for culture, community, and volunteer work.
Choral singing strengthens community
Singing together is far more than a hobby, Will emphasized. It fosters community, strengthens well-being, and has positive effects on health and quality of life. Especially in times of societal challenges, choirs make an important contribution to social cohesion.
Decades of commitment recognized
The awards demonstrate the strong roots of choral singing in the region:
One singer was honored for 75 years of membership, two others for 70 years. Four honorees look back on 65 years, eight on 50 years, 13 on 40 years, and eleven on 25 years of active singing. Five young people were recognized for ten years of dedication.
Two special awards went to dedicated individuals from Rüsselsheim am Main who have made outstanding contributions to choral singing.
Focus on developing young talent
The promotion of young singers also played an important role. A youth singing week in Mörfelden-Walldorf, jointly organized by regional stakeholders, was cited as an example.
Representatives of the choral associations also advocated for creating singing opportunities for children at an early age, for example as part of all-day care at primary schools.
Musical program and outlook
Several ensembles and choirs from the region provided the musical accompaniment. The Groß-Gerau district continues to support choral singing together with its partners.
The next highlight is already scheduled: The "Evening of Choirs" will take place on September 20, 2026, at the district administration office. Applications are still being accepted until the beginning of May.
