The concert on June 29, 2025, will feature works by Mozart, Handel, Gershwin, and others – an unusual soundscape with powerful tuba and organ
An extraordinary musical experience awaits visitors on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 5 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church in Eberstadt: In a concert entitled "Powerful Tuba Meets the Diverse Sounds of the Organ," the timbres of a tuba quartet will combine with the rich acoustics of the organ.
The tuba, rarely heard as a solo instrument in church, interprets, accompanied by the organ, among other pieces, a little-known trumpet concerto by W.A. Mozart, performed here in an arrangement for tuba and organ. Also on the program are two works by George Frideric Handel: a bourrée from a flute sonata and an aria from the opera Rinaldo, which is "sung" by the tuba and complemented by the organ.
From Baroque to Broadway
The evening offers a wide musical range:
- Franz Watz is represented with his Concertino for Tuba and Organ – a work in the classical style with a dance-like lightness.
- The tuba quartet, consisting of four musicians, interprets famous titles by George Gershwin, including Summertime, Someone to Watch Over Me and Love Is Here to Stay – stylistically between classical and Broadway.
Organ works as points of contrast
The organ also appears as a solo instrument. The following pieces will be performed:
- The first movement from Max Reger's Fantasy on a Theme by Bach – a sophisticated musical monument to Johann Sebastian Bach.
- Litanies by Jehan Alain, an expressive work from the early 20th century that oscillates between supplication and prayer.
Contributors
