The state of Hesse supports the fire department with approximately 238,700 euros
The town of Riedstadt will receive funding from the state of Hesse for the purchase of a turntable ladder truck for its volunteer fire department. State Secretary of the Interior Martin Rößler presented the grant notification for €238,700 to Mayor Marcus Kretschmann.
Important step for the fire department
The handover took place at the Erfelden fire station, where numerous emergency personnel were present. The planned turntable ladder (DLAK 23/12) will enable the rescue of people from greater heights and firefighting from above.
With 262 firefighters spread across five local fire stations, the Riedstadt Volunteer Fire Department is one of the largest in the Groß-Gerau district. However, it does not yet have its own turntable ladder. In such situations, vehicles have had to be requested from neighboring municipalities such as Biebesheim, Groß-Gerau, or Griesheim.
Support from the state and county
The purchase is included in the fire department's needs assessment and is also supported by the Groß-Gerau district. This is due to rising population figures and increasing demands on fire protection.
Mayor Kretschmann highlighted the capabilities of the fire department and also referred to planned projects such as a joint fire station in Riedstadt-Mitte for the districts of Goddelau and Erfelden.
Recognition for voluntary work
State Secretary Rößler praised the dedication of the firefighters. Last year, they responded to 292 incidents, contributing more than 6,300 volunteer hours.
The state of Hesse supported fire protection in Riedstadt between 2020 and 2025 with several funding measures totaling around 760,000 euros.
Furthermore, a joint procurement with the municipality of Biebesheim makes a price reduction of five to ten percent possible for the turntable ladder vehicle.
