Graffiti project during the Easter holidays strengthens creativity and community
During the Easter holidays in Darmstadt, young people redesigned the entrance area of the Go-In youth center in the Eberstadt district. A multi-day graffiti project resulted in a modern look, completed in time for the planned 50th anniversary in September.
Creative workshops with professional guidance
A central element of the project were two workshops conducted by the artist team Katem and Keim Kowalski of Lackschaden. Participants gained insights into the fundamentals of spray painting – from the initial sketch and handling of spray cans to shading and design techniques.
The young people were able to develop their own ideas and implement them directly on the wall. The aim was not only to visually enhance the youth center, but also to allow its users to actively participate in shaping it.
Contribution to youth development
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes the importance of the project for the city: When young people can implement their ideas in their own neighborhood, it is a vital component of youth development. At the same time, it strengthens community spirit and makes creative potential visible.
The Go-In youth center sees itself as a place where young people can develop and implement their own projects.
Looking ahead to the anniversary in September
The newly designed entrance area is now visible. It also represents a first milestone on the way to the 50th anniversary celebration of the youth center, which is planned for September 11, 2026.
