The middle school will start as an independent school from the 2026/27 school year
The planned middle school in the Groß-Gerau district will become independent as early as the next school year. As confirmed after a meeting at the Hessian Ministry of Education, the school will start operating independently from August 1, 2026, and will no longer be a branch school.
Decision for greater planning certainty
Until now, the first year groups were taught on the grounds of the IGS Mainspitze in Ginsheim-Gustavsburg – organizationally as a branch of the Neues Gymnasium Rüsselsheim. This arrangement is now being discontinued.
District Administrator Thomas Will justifies the move with changed circumstances and the desire for clear prospects for families. The renewed independence is intended, in particular, to provide greater planning security.
Parents can review their school choice again
Parents of fourth graders from Bischofsheim, Raunheim, Kelsterbach and Ginsheim-Gustavsburg have until April 24th to reconsider their choice of school.
The school management will inform current fifth and sixth grade students who have been taught at the branch location about the next steps.
New building planned in Bischofsheim
In the long term, the new high school is to have its permanent location in Bischofsheim. A new building is planned on the "Berliner Zwickel" site.
Approximately €2.6 million has been earmarked in the 2026 district budget for initial measures. Preparations for the planning phase and discussions with landowners are currently underway. The development plan is being drawn up in coordination with the municipality.
