Artist Thomas Duttenhoefer designs new Heinerfest medal
The Darmstadt Coin Collectors' Association intends to continue documenting significant events in the city's history in the form of medals. Together with the Darmstadt artist Thomas Duttenhoefer, they are now creating a new series of contemporary commemorative medals.
New medal commemorates 75 years of the Heinerfest
The first medal of the project commemorates the 75-year tradition of the Darmstadt Heinerfest. With this project, the coin enthusiasts aim to permanently preserve important cultural and social events in Darmstadt for posterity.
According to the association, the initiative builds on a long Darmstadt tradition. Even the Grand Dukes had important events documented by so-called court medalists.
Historical connection to the Mathildenhöhe
The Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt played a special role in this. Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig brought the artist Rudolf Bosselt to Darmstadt to establish the artists' colony. Bosselt conceived of the medal as a "folk song of sculptures" and wanted to make art accessible to many people.
He was followed by other well-known artists such as Daniel Greiner, Paul Haustein and Heinrich Jobst.
Another medal planned for the Mathildenhöhe anniversary
Another medal is scheduled to be released in early July. The occasion is the 125th anniversary of the first exhibition at the Mathildenhöhe in 1901.
An accompanying exhibition is also planned in the Wedding Tower in Darmstadt.
The Darmstadt coin enthusiasts also see the project as a contribution to becoming more aware of and preserving historical and cultural themes in a fast-paced time.
