Niklas Gehnich gains insight into the diverse daily routine of deployment
Niklas Gehnich accompanied the city police in Weiterstadt on a patrol. The aim of the visit was to gain a personal impression of the tasks and challenges faced by the officers in their daily work.
The city police perform a wide range of tasks
During the operation, the mayor was out and about in Darmstadt Street, at the market square, and on Gehaborner Weg, among other places. There, the city police checked parked vehicles and ensured compliance with road closures.
According to the city, the joint operation demonstrated that the work of the municipal police extends far beyond monitoring parked vehicles. In addition to issuing warnings for parking violations, officers also intervene in moving traffic, checking for violations such as using a mobile phone while driving or using a seatbelt, issuing orders to leave the area, and recording personal information.
Digital tools such as the city's defect reporting system now also play an important role in everyday work.
Checkpoint in Gehaborner Weg after incident
One focus was on monitoring the road closure on Gehaborner Weg. This follows an incident in which a dog was fatally injured by a vehicle there, despite the road being closed.
Extended service hours planned
The city police will have an even greater presence in the future. At the initiative of Mayor Gehnich, service hours have been extended. Officers will now also be on duty at night and on weekends.
According to the city, this is a response to the wishes of many citizens for better accessibility and faster response times.
Appeal to the population
Mayor Gehnich is calling on the public to continue actively reporting any suspicious activity and to show civic courage. Information from the community is an important contribution to safety and order in the city.
