Graffiti, local history and digital ideas will be the focus from September 12th
Young people from Büttelborn, Klein-Gerau, and Worfelden can participate in a workshop starting Saturday, September 12, 2026, exploring democracy, local history, and shaping their living environment. The Groß-Gerau district adult education center and the municipality of Büttelborn are combining graffiti and digital media to explore the wishes and ideas young people have for their communities.
The program is aimed at 10- to 15-year-olds. Under the title "Democracy on their doorstep," they explore their communities and examine the stories that shape them, the places that are important to them, and how their own ideas can be made visible.
More graffiti designs planned
The project builds on the graffiti wall created in February and March 2026 opposite the neighborhood meeting place in Büttelborn. Further murals will now be created in collaboration with a graffiti artist.
In parallel, the results are digitally documented using an app. This will ensure that ideas and information about the "Places of Democracy in Büttelborn" remain accessible in the long term.
The first meeting will take place on Saturday, September 12, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Büttelborn neighborhood center . Further workshops will follow on September 19 and 27 in the other districts. A participation fee of ten euros will be charged for all three sessions.
Exchange with older generations
Those who wish to continue the project can also participate in October and November. Meetings with dedicated individuals from local heritage preservation and history societies are scheduled for three Sundays in the historic town halls of Büttelborn, Klein-Gerau, and Worfelden.
This allows young people and their families to talk to older generations, gather information about local history and incorporate it into the app.
The project is being implemented by the Groß-Gerau district adult education center and the municipality of Büttelborn as part of “Building Democracy!” of the FrankfurtRheinMain cultural region and the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026.
