Two young people are to act as intermediaries between youth, administration and politics
The city of Darmstadt is seeking two volunteer children's and youth officers. Young people aged 16 to 27 who live in Darmstadt are eligible to apply. The application deadline is October 18, 2026.
The children's and youth officers are intended to serve as contact persons for young people, address their concerns, and provide opportunities for participation. This voluntary position is part of the city's framework for children's and youth participation.
Contact point for young people
Their tasks include providing information about inclusive participation opportunities in Darmstadt and serving as a contact point both in person and digitally. The officers work together with the Coordination Office for Children and Youth Participation and the Youth Parliament.
Furthermore, they receive an advisory seat on the youth welfare committee. The voluntary position is to be held for a minimum of two years. A monthly allowance is paid for this.
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz describes the function as a link between young people and the city: "They support young people in expressing and pooling their concerns and standing up for participation and children's rights."
Aaron Becker, chairman of the youth council, also sees the age of the representatives as an important aspect: "We believe it is important that children and young people have contact persons who are close to them in terms of age and can understand their concerns."

All 16- to 27-year-olds residing in Darmstadt. Applications must be submitted by email to Jugendbildungswerk@darmstadt.de to the Coordination Office for Children and Youth Participation by October 18th.
