Employees are out daily with sweepers and leaf blowers – traffic safety takes priority during cleaning
Autumn is currently keeping Weiterstadt busy. The large quantities of falling leaves are posing particular challenges for the city's maintenance department. Employees are out every day clearing streets, sidewalks, and public squares of leaves. But no sooner is one area cleaned than new leaves are already falling from the trees. The city administration therefore asks for your understanding if it is not possible to clean everywhere at once.
Sweepers, leaf blowers and a lot of manual labor
The Weiterstadt municipal works department uses a variety of methods to remove fallen leaves. In addition to sweepers and leaf blowers, extensive manual labor is also required to clean the affected areas.
The particular challenge lies in the sheer volume of fallen leaves and their continuous fall. Even streets and sidewalks that have already been cleaned sometimes need to be cleared again shortly afterwards.
This results in a considerable additional workload that extends throughout the entire autumn leaf season.
Road safety is the top priority
Since it is not possible to clean all streets, sidewalks and public squares at the same time, the municipal works department works according to set priorities.
Traffic safety is of particular importance. Areas where fallen leaves pose an increased risk will be given priority.
Especially in damp weather, large accumulations of leaves on sidewalks and traffic areas can become slippery. Cleaning such areas is therefore particularly important.
The city administration makes it clear that the order of the work is not arbitrary, but is based in particular on potential hazards.
Regular tasks also need to be completed
In addition to seasonal leaf removal, the municipal building yard must continue to fulfill its numerous regular tasks.
Therefore, employees cannot focus solely on collecting leaves. Instead, the additional autumn work must be integrated into ongoing operations.
Despite the high daily workload, it is therefore not possible to clean all affected areas immediately.
In addition, the ongoing leaf fall partially undoes work that has already been completed.
The city asks for understanding and patience
The city of Weiterstadt appeals to its citizens to show understanding for the particular strain on the municipal works department.
Even if individual streets or footpaths have not yet been cleared of leaves, this does not mean that they have been forgotten during cleaning.
The work will be carried out in stages and in accordance with the established priorities. Priority will be given in particular to areas where traffic safety could be affected.
The city administration therefore asks for patience until the remaining areas can also be cleaned.
