The district senior citizens' advisory board recommends visiting the World Heritage Site and open-air laboratory in June
The working group "Senior-Friendly Bergstraße District" has selected the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lorsch Abbey and the Lauresham Open-Air Laboratory as its excursion destination for June. As the Bergstraße District Senior Citizens' Advisory Board reports, the recommendation is aimed particularly at senior citizens and their relatives.
The historical area offers the opportunity to discover more than 1,200 years of history and is one of the most important cultural monuments in the region.
Tour of the World Heritage Site
The World Heritage Site includes not only the famous King's Hall but also the church fragment, the monastery wall, the herb garden, Altenmünster Abbey, the museum center, and the tithe barn exhibition depot. A circular route connects numerous sites and provides insights into the history of the early medieval abbey and the development of the area.
Many areas of the World Heritage Site, including the monastery grounds, the herb garden and Altenmünster, are freely accessible every day of the year until nightfall.
Open-air laboratory depicts life in the early Middle Ages
In addition to the historical tour, the museum center offers information on the history of the monastery and the regional cultural history. Among other topics, it addresses the once important tobacco cultivation in the region.
At the Lauresham Open-Air Laboratory, visitors gain vivid insights into life and work in the early Middle Ages. Those wishing to delve deeper into the history can participate in public guided tours or book group tours.

Events and opportunities to participate
The Lorsch Abbey World Heritage Site regularly offers events, workshops, and hands-on activities for various age groups. Advance registration is recommended for groups.
Further information and booking options can be found on the monastery's website at kloster-lorsch.de.
The historic old town invites you to linger
The area surrounding the World Heritage Site also makes Lorsch an attractive destination for a day trip. The historic town center with its market square, town hall, restaurants, and ice cream parlors offers numerous opportunities for a pleasant stay.
Also particularly worth seeing is the peony garden on the grounds of the Protestant church. The flowering period usually lasts until mid-June. The garden also makes a connection to the famous Lorsch Pharmacopoeia.
