Registration for the educational trip organized by the city of Darmstadt is possible until June 26th
The city of Darmstadt, together with the Darmstadt Youth Council and the Youth Education Center, is once again organizing a memorial trip for young people. The destination is the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. The trip will take place from September 1st to 5th, 2026.
Intensive engagement with Nazi history
The program is aimed at young people and young adults aged 16 to 21. Its goal is a deeper examination of the history and crimes of National Socialism.
The trip includes not only the on-site stay but also a preparatory meeting and a follow-up session. This is intended to allow participants to process their impressions and reflect on them in a lasting way.
Pedagogically supervised program
During the trip, participants gain insights into historical contexts and engage intensively with the former concentration camp. The program is accompanied by educational specialists from the memorial site.
In addition to guided tours, creative formats are also planned that allow for a personal engagement with the topic.
Free participation and registration
Participation in the memorial site visit is free of charge. Students can be excused from school for the duration of the trip.
Applications are accepted until June 26, 2026. Interested parties can contact the Darmstadt Youth Education Center by email at jugendbildungswerk@darmstadt.de.
Significance for political education
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes the relevance of such initiatives, particularly given the declining number of eyewitness accounts and the increasing spread of disinformation on social media. Representatives of the Youth Council also highlight the importance of commemorating the injustices of the Nazi regime for an open and democratic society.
