An expert will explain the importance of biodiverse forests on June 11th
Why the Griesheim city forest, despite its current state, is a valuable habitat for numerous animal and plant species will be the focus of a nature conservation walk on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
From 3 pm to 5 pm, long-time conservationist Reiner Stürz will lead interested citizens through the city forest together with the city of Griesheim. The meeting point is the forest playground.
Discover animals and habitats
During the excursion, participants will gain insights into the diverse wildlife of the Griesheim Forest. Among other things, sand bees, birds, grasshoppers, and other native species can be observed on the walk.
Reiner Stürz explains the importance of these animals for the ecological balance and shows what role they play within the forest habitat.
Species-rich forest despite changes
According to the environmental office, the Griesheim municipal forest is characterized by a high level of biodiversity. Even though its appearance differs significantly from classic oak or beech forests, it offers important habitats for numerous animal and plant species.
The walk is intended to highlight the importance of local nature conservation and to sharpen the focus on the special features of the Griesheim Forest.
