Information exchange and meeting place focusing on advice, resources and exchange
The pastoral care service for visually impaired people of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau invites you to a spring festival and information fair in Darmstadt on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Center for Pastoral Care and Counseling on Herdweg.
Information and support for those affected
The focus of the day is on information and exchange about visual impairment and blindness. Older people are particularly targeted, as visual impairments often only appear later in life and many affected individuals are unaware of available support services.
On-site, experts from counseling and rehabilitation, representatives from the German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted, and the supplementary independent participation counseling service will be available to provide information. Simple and inexpensive aids that can make everyday life easier will be presented.
Insights and opportunities to participate
The spring festival offers numerous opportunities to engage practically with the topic. Tactile models and games invite visitors to try things out. With special simulation glasses, sighted visitors can experience what it feels like to have a visual impairment.
A special offering is short, so-called "dark meditations." Under the motto "How it smells," participants can have experiences without sight and consciously perceive their other senses.
Exchange, music and encounter
In addition to providing information, the event also focuses on fostering a sense of community. Lunch, coffee and cake, and live music will be offered in the afternoon.
In addition, information is provided about opportunities to volunteer in the support of visually impaired people.
Arrival and information
As the parking lot at the venue is in use, parking is limited. We recommend using public transportation. Bus stops are located nearby on Herdweg and Beckstraße.
