Construction work for the barrier-free facility will start on May 4th
As the city of Darmstadt announces, construction work on the playground at Steinbrücker Teich will resume on Monday, May 4, 2026. The aim is to create an accessible and inclusive design for the facility.
New playground equipment and inclusive offers
The main focus of the work is the installation of a second, smaller tower structure, which will be wheelchair accessible. This will complement the existing one, which includes a stainless steel slide with a wider slide body and a larger single-seat table.
In addition, a new hillside obstacle course with balancing and rope elements is being created, blending seamlessly into the existing terrain. Wood chips will also be added starting May 12th.
Temporary closures necessary
During the construction work, the affected area will be temporarily closed for safety reasons. Other parts of the playground will remain open.
The city announces that it will implement the work as quickly as possible and keep the disruptions to a minimum.
Focus on inclusion
Green space officer Michael Kolmer emphasizes the goal of the measure: The playground should in future offer all children – regardless of their physical abilities – diverse play opportunities.
Once the work is completed, the city will provide information about the full reopening.
