Despite the heat, swimming is still prohibited – blue-green algae can pose a health risk
The persistently high temperatures are currently creating a great need for cooling off. However, last weekend the city administration received numerous reports that Steinrodsee lake was being used for swimming despite the existing swimming ban.
The city is therefore reiterating that swimming in Steinrodsee is prohibited. The lake is an important habitat for numerous animal species, including beavers and ducks. Especially during the breeding and nesting season, wild animals depend on undisturbed refuges.
Besides protecting nature, there are also health reasons for the swimming ban. Due to natural conditions, blue-green algae can regularly form in Lake Steinrod. These can be harmful to the health of both humans and animals.
Dogs must be kept on a leash at Steinrodsee
Dog owners are also asked to comply with the existing regulations. Dogs must be kept on a leash throughout the entire Steinrodsee area to protect the wildlife living there.
Even stricter regulations apply to the Kleewoog, located to the south. There is a year-round ban on entry for both people and animals. This ban covers both the body of water and the adjacent green areas of the nature reserve.
The city administration requests that the applicable protective measures be observed. These measures serve to preserve the sensitive natural environment around the waterways and at the same time prevent potential health risks.
