The speed limit applies on weekdays for safety reasons
A reduced speed limit is now in effect on Rheinstraße in the Dornheim district of Groß-Gerau. The city has announced that a 30 km/h speed limit has been introduced on this stretch of road – but only for a limited time.
Speed limit 30 km/h at certain times
The new regulation applies Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The corresponding signage was installed by Hessen Mobil.
Rheinstraße is a district road, which is why several authorities were involved in the decision.
Child protection is the focus
Key factors in the speed reduction included the presence of childcare facilities along the road. The proximity of these facilities allowed the speed limit to be extended to the entire stretch.
Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau sees the measure as an important step towards greater road safety and less noise pollution for residents.
The result of long discussions
The introduction of a 30 km/h speed limit has been a topic of discussion in local politics for years. Most recently, the city council supported the demand.
Even though the regulation is temporary, the city considers it a success. Rheinstraße was the last street in the Dornheim district where a 50 km/h speed limit had been in effect.
